A warm fall day and hot political races contributed to brisk early business at area polling places Tuesday morning.

Minnesota is known for its high voter turnout, and state officials expect this year to be no different. Many statewide and local races have been heated this year, and voters are expected to turn out in large numbers.

Several Willmar precincts reported lines of voters waiting when they opened their doors at 7 a.m.

Election judges at Ridgewater College had guided nearly 100 voters through the process before 10 a.m. They had seen a "nice and steady" stream of voters after handling the line waiting for them when they opened, said election judge Bill Schultz.

Judges said they expected to see a rush of voters around noon and another later in the day as people get off work.
