ALEXANDRIA -- Elmer Ole Paulson, 91, of Alexandria died Tuesday at Bethany Home in Alexandria.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Burial will be at Waldum Cemetery in Swift County. Military rites will be provided by the Appleton VFW.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, and one hour prior to the service Saturday, both at the funeral home. Memorial gifts will be presented for the upkeep of the Waldum Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 20, 1916, in Hegbert Township, Swift County, to Alfred Sr. and Emma (Larson) Paulson. He attended Drywood Country School District 30 through the eighth grade, before attending the Extension School in Appleton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Italy, Africa, France and Ireland.
He married Fern Kohlman on June 9, 1946. They lived in the Appleton area where he drove a gas bulk delivery truck for Albert Wold. In 1948, he purchased a store and named it Paulson's Super Service. In 1954, he purchased a farm where they lived until 1998. That summer he suffered a severe heart attack which required him to undergo triple bypass surgery. He then moved to Chokio and resided with Bly Jallo. In 2006, he moved to Sioux Falls for Alzhemier's disease care. He returned to Minnesota in 2007 and lived at Nelson Gable Assisted Living in Alexandria. In January, he entered Bethany Home in Alexandria.

He was a charter member of the Appleton VFW.
He is survived by his companion: Bly Jallo of Chokio; children: Valerie (and Bob) Jerzak of Alexandria and Gary (and Cori) Paulson of Apple Valley; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings: Carol Rohloff of Golden Valley and Alfred Paulson Jr. of Alberta.
He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
