RENVILLE -- Eloise Gertrude Himes, 89, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Renville, died Saturday at Sun Health Hospice in Peoria, Ariz.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Renville. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Renville.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville.

She was born on May 7, 1916, in Willow Lake, S.D., to Bert and Adla McVenes. She attended elementary and high school in Willow Lake, General Beadle State Teacher's College in Madison, S.D., and received a two-year degree in elementary education. She taught in a rural school near Willow Lake for a year and then worked at her father's store in Willow Lake for nine year.

She married Charles Phillips on Feb. 28,1936. They lived in Willow Lake. She received her four year degree in elementary education from General Beadle State Teacher's College and taught at the Willow Lake school for 10 years. They moved to Renville in 1963 and she taught sixth grade and junior high English for 15 years. She received the Minnesota Teacher of the Year award in 1968. She retired in 1978 and moved to Arizona. Charles died and she lived in Minnesota and wintered in Arizona.

She married Frank Himes on Dec. 26, 1992. They lived at Casa del Sol and Casa del Rio in Peoria, Ariz.

She was active at Casa del Rio with her card groups and on the resident's council.

She is survived by her daughter: Bonnie (and Dick) Pooley of Apple Valley; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands.
