HECTOR -- Emmett Joel Hallquist, 94, of Hector died Sunday at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Swedlanda Evangelical Lutheran church in Palmyra Township. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

He was born June 30, 1912, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, to Lars and Johanna (Nylander) Hallquist. He grew up in Martinsburg Township and attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1942 to November 1945. He served in the Signal Corps and was stationed in Iceland, France and Germany. He served in the Battle of the Bulge.

He married Lillian Peterson on June 29, 1946, in Evansville. They lived in Hector and he worked as a carpenter with his family's business. He became the sole proprietor of Hallquist Construction in 1970. He partnered with his son in 1978. He retired in 1991.

He was a member of Swedlanda Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his sons: Harlan (and Barb) Hallquist of Shoreview, Keith (and Julie) Hallquist of Hector; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four sisters and six brothers, one in infancy.
