MORRIS -- Emmett Milton Sherstad, 84, of Glenwood, formerly of Morris, died Sunday at Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

He was born April 25, 1922, in rural Donnelly to Adolph and Florence (Weltzin) Sherstad. He attended District 56 School in rural Donnelly through the eighth grade and graduated from Alberta High School in 1940. He began playing drums with the "Sherstad Band" when he was five. He attended Augsburg College for a year, and then returned to farming during World War II. He also worked at the Sunshine Biscuit Company and in dry cleaning.

He married Margie Gilbertson on Oct. 4, 1952, in rural Donnelly. He worked at Aldred & Habicht's Department Store in Morris during the winter months. They moved to a farm in 1954. He worked for the USDA Soil and Water Research Station in Morris in 1960 and the family moved to Morris in 1963. He retired in 1987 and they moved to Glenwood five years later. They wintered in Mesa, Ariz. He was diagnosed with cancer in 1999.

He served on church boards at Kongsvinger, Bethany and First Lutheran churches. He sang in choirs, was a Lion's Club Member and supported the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by his wife; children: Jodi (and Donald) Jordon of New London, Kristin (and Robert) Willert of Alexandria, Sheila (and Peter) Postiglione of Loveland, Colo., Steven Sherstad of Willmar; seven grandchildren; and one sister: Jeanette Marlton of Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
