Melissa Jean Lott and Robert Bruce Laffen, both of Downington, Pa., are engaged to be married Sept. 20 in West Chester, Pa.
Lott is the daughter of Rick Lott and Kate and Jim Largent of Bayfield, Colo.
She is a 1994 graduate of Bayfield High School, a 1998 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, and a 2006 graduate of the University of Maryland University College with a master's degree in technology management. She is employed as an engineer and project manager by the engineering consulting firm Alliance Technical Services Inc.
Laffen is the son of Bruce and Linda Laffen of Willmar.
He is a 1989 graduate of Willmar Senior High School, a 1993 graduate with bachelor's degrees in math and electrical engineering and a 1994 graduate with a master's degree in electrical engineering, all from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is employed as an actuary by ING financial services company.
