GRANITE FALLS -- Ernest Eugene Iverson, 78, of Granite Falls, formerly of Hanley Falls, died Tuesday in Granite Falls Hospital.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Renville. Burial will be at Rock Valle Lutheran Cemetery, rural Echo. Military rites will be by the Hanley Falls American Legion Post.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso.

He was born March 6, 1930, in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Hjalmer and Clara (Anderson) Iverson. He grew up in Sioux Agency Township and attended District 5 Country School and graduated in 1948 from Echo High School. He then attended St. Paul Barber School.

He married Anna Marie Sunvold on Sept. 4, 1953, in Sacred Heart. They lived in Dawson until moving to Granite Falls in 1955, then to Hanley Falls in 1958. They returned to Granite Falls in 2003. He was a barber, city clerk, sheriff dispatcher, and certified assessor for many years in Hanley Falls. He retired in 1993.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Renville and had served on the church council in Hanley Falls. He was also a 50-year member of the Hanley Falls American Legion. He also played the accordion in his band "Ernie and The Playboys."

He is survived by his wife; two sons: Eugene (and Joyce) Iverson, and Curtis Iverson, all of Granite Falls; and five grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
