MORGAN -- Erwin L. Meierding, 80, of Morgan died Monday at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Morgan. Burial will be at the Morgan City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to the start of the service at the church. Memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with the Redwood Valley Funeral Home of Redwood Falls.
He was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Morgan Township, Redwood County, to Erwin and Sophie (Laabs) Meierding. He attended school in District 109 in Morgan Township.

He married Lois Bangerter on June 9, 1953, in Wabasso. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a medic at Fort Carson, Colo. He returned to the Morgan area. They farmed for 27 years then moved to Crosby and cow-calf ranched for eight years. They later moved to Pine River where he worked for Breezy Point Resort doing maintenance work. He was self-employed as a painter. In 1993, they returned to Morgan where he continued his painting business. In 2004, they moved to New Ulm.
He was a longtime member of the Morgan United Methodist Church where he was a trustee, usher, and volunteered his services in maintenance and lawn care. He was a member of the Cattleman's Association, the Sleepy Eye and Fairfax saddle clubs, and the Charlais Association.
He is survived by his wife; children: Jane Anderson of Mankato, Jon Meierding of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; siblings: Wesley (and Helen) Meierding of Parks, Ariz., Carol Friedrich of Redwood Falls and Dorothy Miners of San Diego, Calif.
He was preceded in death by five siblings.
