BENSON -- Evelyn Muriel Smith, 94, of Benson died Monday at Meadow Lane Healthcare Center in Benson.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson. Burial will be in Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson. Memorials are preferred.
She was born July 23, 1913, in Benson to Robert and Inga (Jergenson) Johnson. She grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson normal training. She taught in many schools in Swift County.

She married Lester Smith on June 21, 1935, in Benson. She taught in the Danvers school for 11 years as a first- and second-grade teacher, and later served as principal and librarian. She taught fourth grade for many years in Murdock and also was the elementary principal. She earned a bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State College in 1965. She retired in 1978.
She is survived by her daughter: Barbara (and Robert) Barth of Plymouth; her son: Sheldon (and Deanna) Smith of Denton, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one brother: Donald Johnson of St. Louis Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, John Dineen; her husband in 1986, two sisters and one brother.
