VALE, S.D. -- Everet Aldean Johnson, 88, of Vale, S.D., formerly of Atwater, died Monday at his home in Vale.

The service was Thursday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, S.D. Burial was at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood, S.D.

He was born July 31, 1939, in Atwater to Melker and Tobine Johnson. He grew up in Minnesota and moved to South Dakota in 1957. He worked for Homestake Mining Company. He moved to Riverton, Wyo., and worked at a uranium mine before returning to Homestake Mine.

He married Jean Hoffman on May 3, 1969. They lived in Deadwood before moving to Vale, S.D., in 1997.He retired in 1994, after more than 32 years.

He is survived by his wife; children: Cindy (and Robert) Loguda of Rapid City, S.D., Adriane (and Kurt) Melcher of Lead, Michael (and Lisa) Johnson of Spearfish, S.D., seven grandchildren; and two sisters: Arlene Cornieliuson of Kennewick, Wash., and Marilyn Gilbert of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by one brother.
