MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minneapolis Federal Bureau of Investigation office is seeking assistance in identifying an unknown bank robber who may have Minnesota connections.

The suspect is believed to be responsible for two bank robberies in South Dakota on Aug. 13 and 14. A possible getaway vehicle was spotted during the Aug. 14 robbery in Mitchell, S.D., and described as a blue General Motors two-door car with Minnesota plates.

In a news release from Ralph Boelter, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis field, the possibility the robber may be from Minnesota and is committing crimes in South Dakota is raised.

On Aug. 13 at approximately 10:55 a.m., an unknown white male entered the Valley Bank on South Louise Avenue in Sioux Falls, S.D. The man approached a teller and made a verbal demand for cash, making a motion toward his waistband but not displaying a weapon. After receiving cash, he left the bank on foot, walking toward a Target store parking lot.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He has a thin to medium build and is approximately 25 to 30 years old. He has a mustache and a beard and was wearing a brown baseball cap, a plaid shirt with the sleeves partially rolled up, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a black watch.

A man believed to be the same suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank on North Lawler Avenue in Mitchell the following day at approximately 12:30 p.m. He approached a teller and made a verbal demand for cash. He stated it was not funny, lifted his shirt and motioned to his waistband to indicate a weapon, but did not display one.

When he left the bank with cash, he is believed to have entered the blue vehicle. A description of the suspect matched the first but added dark brown or reddish color to the mustache and light pock marks on his cheeks.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact the Sioux Falls, S.D., FBI office at (605) 334-6881 or the Minneapolis FBI office at (612) 376-3200.
