Fergus Falls council member dead following high-speed chase

ELBOW LAKE -- A Fergus Falls man died Monday evening in a pursuit with officers near Elbow Lake in which he crashed into a police squad car. 

A State Trooper initiated a traffic stop just after 5 p.m. Tuesday on Minnesota Highway 54 near Elbow Lake and I-94, when Timothy A Rundquist, 62, fled in his vehicle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. 

Rundquist, who is listed on the City of Fergus Falls website as a City Council member, continued to flee and led officers on an approximately 11-mile chase, hitting stop sticks placed by the Minnesota State Patrol and assisting agencies.

The pursuit ended when Rundquist hit a parked Ashby Police Department squad car. He was reportedly trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. 

No officers were injured in the pursuit. 

Responding to the accident were the Minnesota State Patrol, Ashby Police Department, Fergus Falls Police Department, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, and Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
