Fifth on Fifth

A public works crew makes short work Monday of a fallen tree branch large enough to block traffic on Fifth Street Southeast close to Olena Avenue. When asked how long the crew had been working, Scott Carruthers, shown using the power saw, said “all day.” While heavy winds knocked down enough smaller branches and debris to keep his and three other crews working, the tree-sized branch on Fifth Street was the fifth large enough to obstruct traffic.
