WILLMAR -- Filing for office opens today for many school district and small city elections in the state.

In races where no primary is to be held, filing will be open from today through 5 p.m. Aug. 14.

In larger cities and other jurisdictions that conduct primaries, filing took place in May. In those races, the primary will be held on Aug. 14.

The general election for all offices will be on Nov. 6.

Filing for office takes place at each local city hall or school district office. Candidates should call ahead to check on the schedules at individual offices.

Filing fees for local offices range from $2 to $5 in school districts, townships and small cities.

After the filing period closes, candidates will have until 5 p.m. Aug. 16 to withdraw their candidacies if they have changed their minds.
