WILLMAR -- The filing period for the offices of mayor and four Willmar City Council members opened Tuesday. The filing period ends at 5 p.m. on June 1.
Mayor Les Heitke filed Tuesday for re-election. He is completing his fourth four-year term as mayor this year and previously served on the City Council. He is a licensed psychologist with Greater Minnesota Family Services.
Heitke has been active in local, state and national civic organizations. He is past president of the League of Minnesota Cities and serves as chairman of the League's Insurance Trust.
In November 2009, he was elected second vice president of the National League of Cities for 2009-2010.
The eight-member council has two members serving from each of the city's four wards.

One council member will be elected from each ward for a four-year term.
Terms will expire this year for Bruce DeBlieck, Ward 1; Ron Christianson, Ward 2; Rick Fagerlie, Ward 3; and Doug Reese, Ward 4.
DeBlieck filed Tuesday and will be seeking a sixth four-year term from Ward 1.
DeBlieck is council liaison to the Municipal Utilities Commission and is chairman of the Community Development Committee. He works as radio maintenance supervisor for the Minnesota Department of Transportation District 8 office in Willmar.
