LITCHFIELD - A barn was reported as a total loss as the result of a fire Wednesday afternoon south of Litchfield in Greenleaf Township.
The fire was reported around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 17500 block of 590th Avenue. Law enforcement arrived on scene to find the 30-by-65-foot old dairy barn engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The barn, owned by Gene Kaping, reportedly did not contain any animals or anything of value. However, loss and cleanup costs are estimated between $50,000 and $75,000.
Responding to the incident were the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Litchfield Fire Department and Cosmos Fire Department.
