EDEN VALLEY -- A rural Eden Valley home was destroyed by fire Thursday evening, according to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin.
The sheriff's office dispatch received a 911 call around 9:10 p.m. reporting a house fire at the address of 35271 592nd Ave., in Manannah Township.
County deputies and firefighters from Eden Valley and Litchfield responded. The deputies were the first units to arrive and the house was fully engulfed in flames at that time.
The homeowner, Richard McCann, 70, was the only person at the house and was out of the house and uninjured upon the deputies' arrival. The home was heated by a wood stove and the fire appeared to have started in the upstairs ceiling area. The house and contents are a total loss and the homeowner indicated there was no insurance coverage in place.
