FAIRHAVEN TOWNSHIP — The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that burning restrictions are in place following a fire that got out of control Monday afternoon in Fairhaven Township, according to a news release from the agency.

According to the news release, James Hay, 62, was attempting to burn a large log when the fire quickly spread out of control at an address in the 7000 block of Stearns County Road 44 east of Kimball.

The Kimball and South Haven fire departments were called to extinguish the fire after sheriff's deputies arrived on scene to see several acres of a wooded lot on fire with flames surrounding a private residence.

Burn restrictions are in place due to dry conditions and Hay was cited for burning without a valid variance permit.
