Football: Morris upends YME to force logjam in WCS

MORRIS -- With the help of five turnovers and a balanced offense, Morris knocked off Yellow Medicine East 39-27 Friday to hand the Sting their first loss in the West Central South Conference.

Travis Moser rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns for Morris, which moved into a first-place tie with YME and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, while the Tigers got another strong passing attack from Taylor Witt.

Witt completed 22-of-35 passes for 280 yards and two scores. The senior quarterback also ran for a touchdown as Morris put 20 points on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.

Jarett Berg and Kyle Gaffaney both scored on the ground for YME, but the Sting lost four fumbles.

Craig Knochenmus hauled in nine catches, including a 39-yard reception that put Morris ahead 20-15, for 137 yards.

Paynesville 35, BOLD 21

Paynesville led 20-0 before BOLD scored 21 unanswered points to take a slim lead in the fourth quarter. But the Bulldogs (1-4, 2-4) responded with two quick scores to stun the visiting Warriors (3-2, 3-3).

Ted Hoffman threw two touchdown passes to Alex Naujokas and Sam Bayer scored twice for Paynesville. The Bulldogs' Matt Hansen scored on a reverse on the game's first drive, a series that took 13 plays and chewed up 6ยฝ minutes.

Grant Solem rushed for two scores and threw a 60-yard scoring strike to Bryce Steffel to fuel BOLD's comeback.

BOLD stopped Paynesville at the goal line midway through the fourth quarter, but the Warriors then lost a fumble at their own one-yard line, setting up Bayer's one-yard TD run that sealed the win for Paynesville.

ACGC 23, LQPV 21

The Falcons (4-1, 5-1) won the overtime coin toss and chose defense, then the Eagles (1-4, 2-4) scored on Adam Paulson's second one-yard touchdown run of the game.

ACGC stuffed the two-point conversion run, and on their first overtime play scored on Eric Larson's 10-yard reception from Justin Schroeder to tie the game.

The Falcons set up for the extra point and the snap went high, but Jordan Tanner got a pass off to Tom Huisman for the two-point win.

Aaron Haag, who scored two touchdowns, and Nic Leither led the Falcons with 94 yards rushing each.

Justin Stamp had 39 yards rushing to lead the Eagles.

Benson's Daniel Fragodt had returned two punts for touchdowns as the Braves built up a 14-7 lead after three quarters.

Jesse Holm caught a 12-yard TD pass from Michael Ahrndt in the fourth quarter for a 21-7 lead, but Montevideo answered with a Tyler Blomme 15-yard touchdown.

Holm single-handedly stopped a Montevideo drive for the win. He sacked Montevideo quarterback Tyler Grey, forced a fumble and recovered it with 2:02 left, which allowed the Braves to run out the clock.

Holm led the Benson offense with five catches for 73 yards. Defensively, Fragodt intercepted three passes.

Blomme paced Montevideo with 108 yards rushing.
