Former Kandiyohi County Attorney Beccue dies at 73

Former Kandiyohi County Attorney Boyd Beccue passed away at the age of 73. He served the county for 20 years as attorney, from 1990 to 2010.

MONTICELLO — Boyd Beccue, who served as the Kandiyohi County Attorney for 20 years, passed away on Saturday at the age of 73 in Monticello.

Beccue was the county attorney from 1990 to 2010. He also served 3 1/2 years as assistant county attorney under Ron Schneider.

According to a West Central Tribune article from July 2010 , Beccue said he oversaw over 20,000 cases as attorney.

Boyd was born in Kelliher, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1971, according to his obituary. He served in the Vietnam War as a member of the United StateS Army and reached the rank of captain prior to his honorable discharge. He earned his law degree in 1979 from the University of Minnesota Law School, and was a practicing lawyer for 32 years.

His law career included working as a partner at Schneider, Beccue and Kallestad Law Firm in Willmar and as a private practitioner. He also served as the Kerkhoven city attorney, according to the Tribune archives.


He also served as the president of the Minnesota County Attorneys Association in 2007 and was on the board of directors. In addition, he was a member of the National District Attorneys Association and the Minnesota and Kandiyohi County bar associations.

Outside of his law career, Beccue was involved in the Willmar American Legion Post 167, Kandiyohi County Historical Society, Ducks Unlimited, Turn in Poachers, the Jaycees, Willmar Blue Line Club and a founding member of Willmar Cardinal Pride, according to his obituary.

Beccue was married to his wife, Jane, for 40 years and had four children and eight grandchildren, with a ninth on the way.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
