WILLMAR -- Four of 22 businesses failed to pass recent alcohol compliance checks conducted by the Willmar Police Department.
According to a news release from the department, 22 on-sale and off-sale establishments were checked between Oct. 21 and Nov. 11. A total of 18 businesses passed.
The businesses that did not meet requirements and sold alcohol to underage people were Golden Palace, Kandi Entertainment Center, Gerry's Liquors and Sunray Spirits.
According to the release, the Police Department has been conducting regular checks since 2001. City ordinance lists escalating consequences for businesses that fail the checks.
The Police Department offers free server training classes for businesses in the city. Classes this year were provided in May, September and November. The department has also provided the businesses with a free DVD that provides additional training for employees.

Local law enforcement receives funding from the Minnesota Institute of Public Health through the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Program of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
