NEW LONDON -- Fred Charles Champine, 72, of New London died Sunday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar VFW and American Legion Posts.
He was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Yale, Mich., to Fred and Yvonne (Grymonprez) Champine. He grew up and received his education in the Mt. Clemens area. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas during the Korean War.
He married Jenny Serio. They lived in Centerline, Mich., and he worked various jobs. He moved to Granite Falls in 1994 and worked at Fire Fly Creek Casino. He has lived in nursing homes in Granite Falls, Clarkfield and Cosmos. He moved to Glen Oaks Care Center in New London in 2003.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post.
He is survived by his son: Mark (and Susan) Champine of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; two grandchildren; and one sister: Betty (and Laverne) Korthuis of Granite Falls.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
