APPLETON -- Freddie Melvin Engebretson, 84, of Appleton died Friday at the Appleton Nursing Home.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 8, 1922, in Chippewa County to Fritjof and Mary (Schutzer) Engebretson. He grew up near Milan on the family farm. He attended school in Milan, graduating from Milan High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the 12th Army Infantry as a member of the Hell Cats. During this time he was in the Battle of the Bulge.

On Jan. 2, 1951, he married Ramona Harste in Montevideo. He worked for the Appleton creamery and later owned his own Clover Leaf milk truck for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Milan American Legion, Appleton Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Kviteseid Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his son, Fritjof (and Mary) Engebretson of Appleton; daughters, Ronae Rose of Appleton, Fawn (and Kenneth Munstermann) Engebretson of Fayetteville, Ark., Monica Engebretson of Bentonville, Ark.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Oscar (and Grace) Engebretson of Milan; sisters, Bernice (and Henry) Zinda of Appleton, Fern Rode of Montevideo and Marie (and Daryll) Anderson of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1969; a son, Shane Engebretson, in 1964; three sisters; and two brothers.
