DASSEL -- A man wanted in Mankato for assault eluded an extensive search that included a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter Thursday night in Meeker County.
Steven James Sangren, 34, of Dassel, was a passenger in a car that was stopped by a Dassel Police officer at Schmidty's Gas Station, Dassel, for disabled taillights, the Meeker County Sheriff's Department reported. The driver of the vehicle, Jerry James Anderson Jr., 24, of Hutchinson, fled into the gas station. He was arrested for fifth degree possession of narcotics, obstructing the legal process and fleeing a police officer on foot.
Sangren fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. A State Patrol helicopter assisted law officers in an extensive search of the area, but he was not found and remains at large.
Sangren is wanted on a warrant from the Mankato Police Department for fourth degree assault, failure to appear, and obstructing the legal process.
