Funeral set for New London soldier killed in Afghanistan

NEW LONDON -- The funeral for Army Pfc. Ryane G. Clark, 22, of New London, will be at 2 p.m.Oct. 17 at the New London-Spicer High School gymnasium.

The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Oct. 16, also at the high school. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home of New London.

Clark died Monday while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, he died in Shekhabad, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.

Clark was assigned to the 27th Combat Engineer Battalion (Airborne), 20th Combat Engineer Brigade, Fort Bragg, N.C.

He graduated in 2007 from New London-Spicer High School, where he was on the wrestling team. He will be remembered tonight when the NLS Wildcats meet Milaca at the school football field.
