WILLMAR -- Gerald H. Nichtern, 82, of Willmar died Tuesday at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1925, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Horace and Florence (Sorenson) Nichtern. They moved to a farm by St. James. He went to school in Grogan through sixth grade. He then attended a country school.

He married Dorothy Dietrich on April 18, 1948, in Waseca. They moved to Torrington, Wyo., where he was a painter. They returned to Minnesota and he painted with his father-in-lawfor a year. He then worked for the EF Johnson Company for 37 years. He retired in 1990. They lived on a farm southwest of Waseca. They spent 17 years at their cottage on Lake of the Woods in Canada. Dorothy died in 1996.

He married Patricia (Lundin) Gustafson on March 1, 1997. They lived in Willmar.

He belonged to the Civil Defense for a number of years in Waseca and helped at the Sheriff's Department.

He is survived by his wife; children: Bonnie (and Wilson) of Keizer, Ore.; David (and Gloria) Nichtern of Starbuck, Becky (and Gary) Anderson of Waseca; step-children: Greg (and Deanna) Gustafson of Willmar, Judy (and Craig) Hanson of Willmar; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister: Donna (and Gene) DeFoe.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; son: Timothy; and a sister.
