GRANITE FALLS -- Gerald Sadric Blue, 74, of Granite Falls died Sunday at the Granite Falls Hospital.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Upper Sioux Community Multi Purpose Building in rural Granite Falls. Burial will be at Doncaster Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today to the time of the service Wednesday at the Upper Sioux Community Multi Purpose Building. Arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
He was born Oct. 10, 1931, in rural Veblen, S.D., to Norman and Helen (Williams) Blue. He graduated from high school and attended Sisseton-Wahpeton Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He married Janice Louis on June 28, 1986, in South Dakota. He was a heavy equipment operator in Minneapolis for a number of years and then a supply clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Aberdeen, S.D. In 1974 he was district manager for Field Enterprises in Chicago, and later associate judge for the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribe, where he was also realty manager. In 1978 he became program manager, 638 and managing editor of the Sota Paper until 1987. He was the business manager and district chairman of the Lake Traverse District for two years. He was Dakota studies teacher at Tiospa Zina Tribal School and district treasurer for the Lake Traverse district in 1989. He served as the Upper Sioux Community chairman, vice chair, was a member of the elder board and meal site coordinator in the early 1990s. He also worked in security for the casino.
He is survived by his wife; children: Kathy (and Charles) Talbert of Minneapolis, Karen (and Martin) Stanley of Maryland, Michael Blue of Granite Falls, Greg Blue of Renville, Richard Lake of Granite Falls; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister: Patty (and Harvey) Birkman of Granite Falls.
He was preceded in death by one daughter; two siblings in infancy and three sisters.
