APPLETON -- Geraldine Francis Maanum, 77, of Appleton, died Friday at the Westwind Village in Morris.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Cemetery.

She was born on May 21, 1930 at home in Perham to Frederick and LC May (Whaley) Rau. She lived with her family on the farm and attended Benson high school for several years. She graduated from George Washington High in Los Angeles, Calif., where she lived with family during her senior year.

She married Herman Maanum on Jan. 10, 1949 in Hancock. They farmed for several years, after which they moved to Minneapolis. They moved to Denver where she was secretary for their church. They moved to Orlando, Fla, then back to Orlando.

In 1967, the couple returned to a farm near Lowry. She worked on the farm and at the Bethany Retirement home in Alexandria.

They sold their farm in 1979 and moved to Appleton. She became a cake decorator. She provided care for several people with Alzheimer's disease and served as a volunteer driver to bring people to medical appointments.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and had been in its choir.

She is survived by three children: Wayne (and Julie) Maanum of Morris, Dean (and Debralee) Maanum of Fergus Falls, and Sharon (and Doug) Wartner of Starbuck; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; Merlin (and Betty) Rau, Don (and Alois) Rau, both of Kensington; and three sisters: Cleone Brustuen of Appleton, Naomi (and Leo) Miller of Morris and Ruth (and Warren) Hickey of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2000 and a sister.
