SHAKOPEE -- Geraldine "Geri" Emma Thune, 55, of Shakopee, formerly of Sacred Heart, died Monday at her home in Shakopee.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Opdal Lutheran Church of rural Sacred Heart. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials to Opdal Lutheran Church or the Sacred Heart Area Museum are preferred.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Sacred Heart.

She was born July 27, 1951, to Loretta (Perry) and Gerald E. Thune, Sr. in Snowhill, Worcester County, Md. She spent the first two years of her life in Snowhill. In 1953, her parents bought a house in Pocomoke City, Md. where she attended first grade. The family then moved into the Warry housing unit on the naval air base at Chincoteague, Va.

In 1959, she moved with her family to their ancestral homestead, known as Springdale Farm, in rural Sacred Heart.

She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1969. She took courses in data processing and accounting at the Willmar Vocational Technical College.

For seven years, she worked at Jennie-O Foods. She then moved to Chaska to become an inventory control specialist at Computer Programmed Typewriters. In 1998, she started work at Franks Nursery in Eden Prairie. When the company closed in 2004, she became a hotel receptionist at the Holiday Inn Express.

She was a member of Opdal Lutheran Church. For the past six years, she lived with the Shafland family in Shakopee. Jeff and Toni and their three children: Shawn, Logan and Hunter, were a big part of her life.

She is preceded in death by her mother.
