REDWOOD FALLS -- Gertrude Mary "Gert" Sullivan, 88, of Redwood Falls died Wednesday at her home.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Morton. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Morton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with parish prayers at 6 p.m., at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

She was born on June 2, 1919, in Janesville, to Michael and Margaret (Norton) Cahill. She grew up in Janesville, where she went to school and graduated. Then she graduated from Mankato State Teachers College with a degree in elementary education.

She married James L. Sullivan on October 8, 1940, in Janesville. They lived on a farm in Birch Cooley Township, Renville County. For 24 years, she worked at the Morton Store. In 2004, they moved to Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Morton, where she served as the first president of the altar and rosary society. She was involved with many 4-H projects.

She is survived by her children: JoAnn (and Ralph) O'Brien of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tom (and Mary) Sullivan of Morton, and Mike (and Jane) Sullivan of Franklin; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and a brother.
