ST. PAUL -- State Sen. Joe Gimse, R-Willmar, has been appointed assistant minority leader in the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus.
As an assistant minority leader, Gimse will serve as an adviser to the caucus leader and oversee all aspects of caucus operations, from personnel management to political strategy, according to a news release from his office.
Gimse will also take a greater role in shaping legislation and influencing other legislators to support or reject issues being heard in the Senate.
"This position will serve to enhance the standing of residents of Senate District 13 by giving us a clearer voice," said Gimse in the release.
"I'm excited about this opportunity."

Senate Minority Leader David Senjem, R-Rochester, called Gimse "a solid leader with a fresh viewpoint" and a "public servant who represents his district well."
Gimse is currently serving his first term in the Legislature, and sits on the Agriculture and Veterans; Business Industry and Jobs; Agriculture and Veterans Budget and Policy Division; Transportation Budget and Policy Division; State and Local Government Operations and Oversight; and Transportation committees.
