Girls Basketball: Henjum's double-double lifts NLS

PAYNESVILLE -- New London-Spicer used its size advantage to dominate the boards and take a 57-43 win over Paynesville in West Central North girls basketball action Friday.

PAYNESVILLE -- New London-Spicer used its size advantage to dominate the boards and take a 57-43 win over Paynesville in West Central North girls basketball action Friday.

The Wildcats (7-2, 13-4) pulled down 33 rebounds, compared to 24 for the Bulldogs (0-10, 1-14).

Renae Henjum posted a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead NLS. She also added four steals. Jenn Wendlandt followed with 12 points, Ellary Asche had six rebounds and Cassie Ziemer added five assists.

Laura Schaefer and Kirsten Miller scored 12 points each for Paynesville. JessiccaLee Klein grabbed six boards and Brittni Schmitz had five assists.

The Lakers bolted to a 31-16 halftime lead and then rested their starters much of the second half. Minnewaska hosts Staples-Motley at 3 p.m. today.

Senior forward Sara Gregersen totaled 18 points for Waska. Sophomore Emily Roering came up with 12 and Gregersen and 6-foot sophomore Cassie Jacobs each captured six caroms.

Leading Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the scoring column was Nicole Eberle with eight.
