NEW LONDON -- New London-Spicer's Jenn Wendlandt sank 1-of-2 free throws with 16 seconds left to hold off Benson, 48-47, in girls basketball action Tuesday.
The Wildcats (6-2) held a 42-31 lead with 11½ minutes left in the game, but the Braves (3-4) went on a 16-5 run to force a tie.
NLS shot poorly in the second half, making 4 of 23 from the field. Overall, the Wildcats were 1 of 16 from three-point range.
Wendlandt led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Renae Henjum added 16 points for NLS.
Brittany Holm recorded a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds for Benson. She also blocked six shots. Abby Fragodt followed with 16 points and nine boards. Courtney Frank added 10 points.
