Girls Basketball: Litchfield sinks Delano

LITCHFIELD -- Becky Smith netted most of her 20 points in the first half to help Litchfield build a 12-point lead at halftime Thursday as the Dragons remained unbeaten in the Wright County Conference by upending Delano 58-49.

Litchfield, ranked ninth in the lastest Class AA State Coaches' Association poll, was out in front of the entire game despite shooting only 37 percent (22-for-59) from the field and 39 percent (12-for-31) from the free-throw line. Delano did get as close as five in the second half.

Smith also amassed six rebounds and five steals for the Dragons (3-0, 7-2). Jill Warren trailed Smith with 12 points while Brittany Euerle racked up six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Hancock stormed back from a late six-point deficit to win. The Owls held a six-point lead at halftime, but Montevideo retook the lead with four minutes left.

Tara Thielke scored 16 points and had seven steals for Hancock. Jenny Noordmans followed with 13 points and Chelsea Voorhees added seven steals.

Brook Moseng netted a game-high 17 points for Montevideo. Hannah Wenaas scored 12 points, all on three-pointers, and Taylor Skoglund had 11.
