GLENWOOD -- Cassie Jacobs scored with just seven seconds left to break a tie and give Minnewaska the West Central South Conference title as the Lakers rallied to win their sixth straight game by upending Montevideo 59-57 Friday in girls basketball.
Amie Chan fed a lob pass to Jacobs from on top of the three-point line to set up the winning basket after Montevideo, which has handed Minnewaska its only loss in the conference, committed a turnover just a few seconds earlier.
The Lakers (16-3) improved to 11-1 in the loop with two games left of their conference schedule. The Thunder Hawks could have stayed in the race for the conference title, but now they will have to fight with ACGC, Benson and YME for second place.
Emily Roering had 17 points, Jacobs 13 and Chan 12 to pace Minnewaska. Montevideo was led by Beka Schwendemann's 13 points. Brooke Tastad followed with 12 while Hannah Wenaas and Carrie Johnson both added 11 more.
