MONTEVIDEO -- A fast start sparked Montevideo Thursday as the Thunder Hawks upended Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 58-48 to knock the Falcons out of first place in the West Central South Conference.
The Falcons (7-2, 10-8) were tied with Lac qui Parle Valley for first in the conference entering the game, but the Eagles beat Yellow Medicine East Thursday to take sole possession of first at 8-1.
Montevideo (5-5, 9-8), which won for just the second time in five games, led the entire game and had its freshman forward Rebeka Schwendemann lead all scorers with 18 points. Brook Moseng followed with 12.
Liberty Slinden scored 17 points off the bench to pace the Falcons.
