MONTEVIDEO -- Montevideo sweated out a 63-58 non-conference win over Dawson-Boyd on Thursday night.
Montevideo bolted to a 12-0 lead in its season opener before Jordan Sis broke the ice for the Blackjacks with a three-pointer at 13:30.
Up by 10 points at halftime, Montevideo built the lead to 17 on a trio of 3-pointers by Hannah Wenaas.
But the Blackjacks remained patient and increased the pressure on defense. They cut the lead to two and then went ahead for the only time in the game, 52-51, on a three-pointer by Kaia Hassel.
Montevideo went back up by five points, but the Blackjacks again rallied to cut it to 59-58 with 1:30 left in the game.

Montevideo reserve center Amanda Boike hit her second basket of the game, followed by free throws by Wenaas and point guard Kari Blommel for the final margin.
Kelly Swenson's 19 points led Dawson-Boyd. Kristen Lee got all of her 13 points in the second-half comeback.
Wenaas scored 18 for Montevideo, Beka Schwendemann 15 and Karie Blommel 11.

With 44 seconds left in regulation, Norwood Young America (3-1) tied the game at 43-43 to force overtime and then outscored Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 8-3 the rest of the way.

Renville County West outscored the Lac qui Parle Eagles 10-5 in overtime to claim a 69-64 win in non-conference action.
The Eagles' Whitley Strei nailed a three-pointer with four seconds left in regulation to tie the score 59-59 and send it to overtime.
The Eagles led by nine with eight minutes left when the Jaguars went on a 7-0 run.
Megan Groen, RCW's returning All-Area guard, drained three 3-pointers on the way to scoring 29 points. Junior center Kelsey Brink chipped in with 15 points and Megan Erickson added 12.
Micaela Erickson notched 22 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Eagles. Strei finished with 17 points while Lauren Struxness and Andrea Rheingan added 10 apiece.
