WILLMAR -- This time, the Spuds did the mashing.

Led by standout junior guard Kelsey Jacobson, the Moorhead Spuds and their motion offense ran over Willmar 73-47 in a non-conference game Saturday.

Jacobson snapped the cords five times from three-point range and finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting. She also chipped in with five rebounds, five assists and seven steals as the Spuds improved to 9-2.

Willmar stayed close in the first half despite a lopsided 17-4 turnover deficit by dominating the boards. Trailing 22-8, the Cardinals went on a 7-0 run to close within 22-15 and trailed just 27-21 late in the first half before Moorhead closed the half with a 6-0 run of its own.

Leading 50-37 with 10:23 left in the game, Moorhead slowly started to pull away and make the game a rout. Jacobson had 13 of her 24 points in the second half.

Gina Jarocszewski had 16 points for Moorhead.

Willmar (5-7) finished with 26 turnovers to only eight for Moorhead.

Lisa Nielsen had a double-double for the Cardinals with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kelsey Evans had 12 points and seven rebounds. Megan Brown added eight points.

It was the 10th straight win for New London-Spicer, which started the season 0-2.

Wendlandt also gathered 10 rebounds and Henjum had eight assists. Cassie Ziemer contributed five assists and seven rebounds.

Rocori got a team-high 14 points from Chandra Schmitz.
