Girls Basketball: YME drubs Montevideo for share of South title

MONTEVIDEO -- Yellow Medicine East earned a share of the West Central South title with a 50-34 win over Montevideo Thursday.

The Sting (9-3, 13-9) tied for first with Benson.

Though both teams shot poorly -- YME made 30 percent (15 of 51) of its shots and Montevideo sank 29 percent (13 of 45), the Sting held the deciding advantage on the glass, 41-23.

Audrey Formo scored a game-high 27 points to lead YME. Michelle Preuss recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Sting also did well from the free-throw line, making 17 of 20.

Brooke Moseng scored nine points to lead Montevideo. Kara Nelson added eight points.

Madeline Gail scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in second half to help the Eagles break away in the second half. Gail also pulled down 14 rebounds to post a double-double.
