PAYNESVILLE -- River Lakes struck for four goals in the middle frame and went on to tip Willmar 5-2 in Central Lakes girls hockey on Tuesday.
Five different players scored for the Stars, who outshot Willmar, 40-22.
"They're deep and good skaters," said Willmar coach Rick Dahle. "They put out four solid lines, but I think we came out a little flat, though we finished hard."
A goal in the first minute by Kelsey Athmann gave the Stars a 1-0 lead through one period.
Courtney Schirmers hit on a powerplay for a 2-0 lead, but Chelsey Wierschem answered for Willmar. The Stars pulled away with a shorthanded goal and two goals in the last minute of the frame for a 5-1 lead. Taylor Sandberg's powerplay goal in the last minute of the game was the only scoring in the third.
