WILLMAR -- Even though Willmar dropped its fifth straight match to start the season, losing 3-0 to Fergus Falls on Tuesday, the Cardinals are beginning to show signs of turning it around.

Scores are closer than in recent years and opponents' shots are also down.

"I'm starting to see frustration on some of the girls and that's good to see," said Willmar coach Jeff Winter. "You don't want to expect to lose. I'm also starting to see some desire to win."

Willmar managed only four shots, while Fergus Falls had 11.

Emily Dowdell, a freshman forward, had the best scoring opportunity for the Cardinals, getting the ball just past midfield and maneuvering around several defenders before dribbling the ball a little too far out in front of her and the Fergus Falls goalie stopped it.
