Girls Tennis: Top-seeded Litchfield breezes past Pipestone

LITCHFIELD -- Top-seeded Litchfield advanced to the semifinals of Section 3A Thursday with a 7-0 win over Pipestone.

Litchfield will take on Yellow Medicine East at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gustavus Asolphus College in St. Peter.

Benson, seeded No. 2, beat Montevideo 6-1 and will face New London-Spicer, a 4-3 winn over Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd, at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The final is slated for 1 p.m.

Benson swept the singles matches in straight sets to advance to the section semifinals, including and 6-0, 6-0 win for Abby Fragodt at 3-singles.

Tina Flaherty and Jenny Fitcher at 1-doubles earned Montevideo's only point.

Amy Holmberg at 2-singles and Carmen Sook-Lizzie Johnson at 3-doubles both won 6-1, 6-1 while Anna Haugo-Sara Binsfeld won their opening set at 2-doubles 6-0.

LQPV/DB won the top two singles matches, but NLS won twice in doubles, thanks to the No. 1 team of Jennesa Johnson-Lauren Rustad and the No. 2 team of Wendy Toops-Melanie Knutson.
