Girls Tennis: Willmar notches second straight win

ST. CLOUD -- After a long delay, the Willmar girls tennis team earned its second win of the season, beating Central Lakes Conference foe St. Cloud Apollo 4-3 Tuesday.

The Cardinals (2-6, 2-10) arrived at St. Cloud Apollo High School ready to take the court after winning their first dual of the season on Thursday.

But rain moved the action to Gold's Gym. Unfortunately, the teams had to wait for open space.

"We went to Gold's but another team was playing and we didn't start until 6:30," said Willmar coach Erika Kath.

Willmar split the singles matches with the Eagles, getting wins from No. 3 player Hannah Okins and No. 4 Sarah Paterson, both in straight sets.

Trisha Foshaug and Katie Switzer added a victory at 2-doubles, then Emily Kack and Becca Johnson won their three-set battle at 1-doubles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

"The girls were excited to play inside and they were ready to go," said Kath.
