GLENWOOD -- Glenita Mae Buckner, 73, of Glenwood, formerly of Benson, died Monday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Cemetery in Benson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to Children's Cancer Research Fund or the American Cancer Society.

She was born March 30, 1933, in Fonda, Iowa, to Vern and Beulah (Archer) Sanders. The family moved to Minnesota in 1942. They lived in Six Mile Grove and Swenoda Townships. She graduated from Benson High School in 1951 and from Gale Institute in Minneapolis in 1952.

She married William Buckner on May 25, 1952, in Washington, D.C. They lived in Benson and then moved to Carrington, N.D., in 1976. They moved to Glenwood in 1994. She worked as secretary at the Production Credit Association office in Benson and Tri-County Electric in Carrington.

She was a member of and served on boards of various organizations, including the Baycrest Homeowner's Association, Minnewaska Women's Golf League, and VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson, Trinity Lutheran in Carrington, N.D., and Glenwood Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband; children: Charles (and Lisa) of Eden Prairie, William (and Donna) of St. Cloud, Richard (and Brenda) of Pittsburg, Kan., Susan (and James) Looysen of Washougal, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six siblings: Dorothy (and Ron) Williams of Benson, Lois (and Harold) George of Madison, S.D., Betty Young of Arvada, Colo., Dennis (and Judy) Sanders of Buffalo, Steven (and Belinda) Sanders of Benson, and Jean Sanders of Vadnais Heights.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter; and one sister.
