NORTHFIELD -- Glenn Edward Nelson, 90, of Northfield, formerly of Redwood Falls and Spicer, died Wednesday.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Millstream Commons in Northfield. Memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield.

He was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Arthur and Emily (Hagen) Nelson. He graduated in 1936 from Chippewa Falls High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from St. Olaf College in 1940. He attended Marquette Medical School in Milwaukee, Wis.

He married Elaine Loftness on Sept. 6, 1942, in Fairfax. In 1943, he received a medical degree and interned at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Bates where he was awarded the Silver Star for distinguished service and valor. Then he worked as house doctor at Grandview Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis. In 1946, they moved to Fairfax where he established his medical practice. In 1968, they moved to Redwood Falls to join the Cairns Medical Clinic. In 1983, they moved to a lake home on Green Lake in Spicer. He continued to practice part time at the New London Clinic and the surgery center in Willmar. He retired in 1987. In 2006, they moved to Millstream Commons in Northfield.

He is survived by his wife; seven children: Greg (and Wendie) of Tucson, James (and Mary) of Duluth, Dennis and (Marybeth) of Redwood Falls, Lee (and Bonnie) of Scandia, Kris Nelson (and Mike Ross) of St. Cloud, Ann (and Barry) Jones of Roseville, Susan (and Judd) Lohmann of Northfield; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
