ST. PAUL - A Republican pharmacist said Monday he will challenge U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson in the 7th Congressional District.
Michael Barrett, who manages the pharmacy at Long Prairie Memorial Hospital, kicked off his campaign Monday at an event in Long Prairie.
In a news release, Barrett described himself as a conservative in the mold of Ronald Reagan. He says he wants to limit government, cut taxes and protect private property rights. He opposes abortion and supports gun rights.
Peterson of Detroit Lakes has represented the district for 15 years and is the ranking Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee.
