MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Forward Jamie Broback, Minnesota's top returning scorer and rebounder, was reinstated to the team Tuesday after a weeklong leave of absence.

Broback met with coach Pam Borton and her staff before practice, and Borton decided to allow Broback to resume weightlifting and other activities with teammates and then rejoin the Gophers in practice next week.

Borton didn't specify exactly why Broback was dismissed, simply describing the absence for "personal reasons," but she indicated that academics were part of it.

"Jamie has taken steps to take care of business off the court," Borton said.

No. 16 Minnesota opens its season at home Saturday against San Francisco in the Subway Classic.

The 6-foot-3 junior, who averaged 14.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and was an All-Big Ten honorable mention choice last season, will be on the bench but not in uniform, Borton said.

"There are certain things that Jamie needs to take care of to integrate herself into the team," she said.
