BIRD ISLAND -- Gordon H. Schmoll, 70, of Bird Island died Friday at Olivia Healthcare Center.
The service will be held at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island with a prayer service at 7 p.m. It will continue from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials can be made to Renville County Hospice.

He was born to Peter and Lillian (Loeffler) Schmoll on Oct. 6, 1935, at his parent's farmhouse. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Bird Island in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from July 21, 1954, to Nov. 1, 1958. He also served in the National Guard and Army Reserves.
He married Karen Gens on Oct. 31, 1959, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. They farmed south of Bird Island until retiring. He was a member of the Renville County Ag Society, Bird Island Farmers' Elevator Board and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons: Andrew and Allen; and a brother.
He is survived by his children: Dan (and Marsha) of Princeton, Texas, Peter (and Jo Jo) of Bird Island, Dale (and Beth) of Cleveland, Minn., Kara (and Robert) Barbur of Bird Island, and Matt of Venice, Calif; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
