West central Minnesota voters were casting their ballots Tuesday in the 2018 Primary, which will narrow the candidate field in local and statewide races.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. at polling place across the region and Minnesota. The polls will close at 8 p.m.

Most election officials are expecting a higher-than-average turnout Tuesday, noting the surge in absentee ballots this year compared to the 2016 general election.

Voters can register same day in Minnesota at their appropriate precinct.

At 9:30 a.m., 48 voters had cast their ballots in person in Willmar's Ward 1, Precinct 1.
