Johnson is candidate to continue on U of M Board of Regents
Dean Johnson of Willmar is on a list of candidates under consideration for appointment to the University of Minnesota Board of Regents.
The Regent Candidate Advisory Council voted Friday to recommend 16 candidates to the Regent Nomination Joint Legislative Committee for final consideration of election to the university Board of Regents.
The Joint Legislative Committee selects one candidate for each open regent seat and submits the slate of candidates to the full Legislature.
Four seats are open on the Board of Regents. They include one from Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District, one student statewide at-large seat and two statewide at-large seats.
Johnson is on the list of candidates for a statewide at-large seat. He has been a regent since 2007 and is a past chairman of the board.
The Regent Candidate Advisory Council received 47 applications for the four open regent seats and interviewed 23 candidates.
The council was created by the Legislature in 1988 and is responsible for recruiting, screening, and recommending regent candidates to the Minnesota Legislature. State law requires that a minimum of two and a maximum of four names be forwarded for each open regent seat. The council's 24 members are appointed by the Legislature.
